Installing Citrix Provisioning Services 6.1.16 (Hotfix CPVS61016) as full installation

In this step-by-step installation guide I will install the Citrix Provisioning Services 6.1.16. I will use hotfix CPVS61016 as source for this installation because this hotfix actually contains the full installation. The source for this hotfix can be downloaded here.

Windows Server 2012 is not officially supported for this installation, so the installation takes place on a Windows Server 2008 R2 server. For this installation I will use my current DHCP server and Microsoft SQL 2008 server which are installed on a separate server.

For this installation you have to do some preparations. There must be a Citrix License server available with the proper licenses. For the vDisk Store there should be a folder created (local on the PVS server or on the network) and a service account must be created.

Service account permissions

The service account need the following permissions;

Database:

–        DB_Datareader;
–        DB_Datawriter;
–        Execute permissions on stored procedures;

System:

–        Run as service
–        Registry read access
–        Program Files\Citrix\Provisioning Services (Full Control)
–        Read/write access to any vDisk location
–        If using Personal vDisks with XenDesktop, XenDesktop Full administrator privileges.

Active Directory:

–        Domain User
–        Create, Reset, and Delete computer object permissions on relating OU’s
–        Reset password permissions on relating OU’s

User who performed the installation

The user you are using for the Citrix Provisioning Services Server installation needs the following SQL Database permissions;

– DBCreator
– SecurityAdmin

Prerequisites

Citrix Provisioning Services has the following prerequisites;
